Don’t Jump to Conclusions

In: Personal Ramblings

You may have already heard of the popular phrase, Think before you speak.

No i am not advising or anything, I just happened to read a popular cartoon strip called Dilbert wherein the boss comes across and tells Dilbert that he has to leave and then the response comes as a disaster, I would rather post the entire conversation from there..

Boss: Wally, I have to let you go..
Dilbert: Well, this was bound to happen.
Dilbert: I guess someone told you that I e-mailed our CEO and said you think his daughter looks like a chimp.
Dilbert: Or is it because i built a guest house from stolen office supplies.
Dilbert: Maybe it's because you found out that I've been taking a dollar out of your desk every day for seven years.
Boss: Actually, I was trying to say I have to let you go to a training class.
Silence strip follows
Dilbert: Is it someplace nice?

It's a comic strip you may say, but irony of life is such that many of us including me have never asked the last question first jumping to random conclusion's about what is being asked to us always ending making a fool of ourselves.

Through this strip maybe the cartoonist wanted to put forth a point which I totally related to.

Many a times it has been a case that one sentence has led me to draw conclusions about things that were no where related to what the other person was trying to say, I guess many others may have had the same experience.

I to have had the same experiences but as they say experience makes you mature, but still..

Do we really listen to things other's want to tell us till we draw up conclusions?

Do we always take things at face value rather than waiting to see what's behind it?

Do we think every question asked has something that is meant to harm us?

Well these are some of the many questions I asked myself too some time back when I started listening before I spoke. I try to avoid  people who like to give their conclusion before even knowing what the other person is trying to say.

For every argument there is a Why and How the other person is always right and this is always the case with both sides, so if you did not enjoy your school debate you definitely can enact it with an argument.

But still though I am not advising, just listen and think before you speak, it always helps to avoid a disaster like Dilbert did in the cartoon strip.

I would love to listen to your opinions on this, the writing is done, now, my ears and eyes are all open.
