Busting Myths – When Will I Become A ProBlogger?

I have been asked this question repeatedly, by people I have met as to when I would become a pro-blogger. Let me tell you that I have had to tell them the same thing again and again and this is why I am writing this post.

Pro-Blogging has been largely misrepresented with the fact that someone who has quit his job and does blogging is a pro-blogger. This is far from the truth, a pro-blogger is not necessarily someone whose only job is blogging, it could also be someone who writes for several blogs or someone who writes pretty often.

You ~~are~~ can be termed a pro-blogger the day you start making money from your blog, it could be 1 cent, it could be $10000, it is all the same. There is no difference in pro-blogging and making money from blogging.

Another misconception I busted was the fact where people asked me when I would become a pro-blogger, the reason they thought I was not one was because I had a job. However, I repeatedly told them and will tell you too, pro-blogging has nothing to do with you having a fulltime job or otherwise.

Pro-blogging is basically how you manage your time for your blog, how much time you can give to it and what you can derive from it. You can on any given day spend 8 hours at work and 8 hours on your blog and still be called a NON pro-blogger. The matter of fact is that people think only people who have left their jobs and are doing fulltime blogging are pro-bloggers or even someone who manages a successful blog.

To be very frank I do not want anyone to term me as a pro-blogger, nor do I want to achieve a term which is really become a fad, it is what is in your mind that matters. I make a healthy amount of money from both my job and my blog. I spend enough time on both my job and my blog, so does that mean I am a amateur blogger?

Stop using terms which were derived from some absurd place just because it seems appropriate. Use your brain to decide what you are, not some things which have been there all the time.

FYI, I will NEVER EVER term myself as a pro-blogger, because even if my fulltime job was blogging, I would still be doing a JOB that can become monotonous and boring. Blogging is not a paradise, it is just another job, so treat it like one.

What is life when you do not have joy? What is life when you do not have the privilege of failing? I say privilege of failing, because only those who try to do things outside the box usually fail, see how I added usually.

Yes, it is a real fact that I have learnt from my mistakes, those failures have made me do better and continue doing better in life, may it be my personal life, work or for that matter blogging.

Failures sum up my experience. The first one I recollect is where I went wayward and almost messed up my life when I was between 14-18, however, thanks to my family back then I got back on track and continued my life to bring it on the right track. However, that mistake led me to ensure that my life would not be flaky again.

I also failed a lot in the past year or so in my personal life, however, thanks to the support of a very loved one I have managed to change myself and become a better person. Again, those mistakes made me realize what I was doing wrong and propped me up to correct them and ensure that I do not do them again.

Without those failures I would not have been able to get back on the right track, I would have continued doing what I did, studying, sucking or whatever, but nothing would have changed, it would have been just another life. However, I have learnt how to bounce out of failures and be successful. I have you might call something as "mastered the art of bucking up my ass after failures".

My first failure propped me up do do something better and within a span of the next 4 years, I bought my own apartment. Can you believe it? Well, I know you can’t but neither could I and neither could anyone who knew me between the ages of 14-18, but I did.

My most recent and most important failure of my life has been the one I really wanted to rectify and ensure that I do not repeat, I won’t disclose it, but I put in all my efforts and made sure it was successful, and with that I hope to have that success all my life soon.

On the whole this changed my perspective about things and I took failure as I would take success, taking something out of both these things and moving ahead. It is not that I have always failed to succeed, I have had success outright, however, I do ensure that my failures do not bog me down and that I get up from it and do better. There is a saying called "A man bounces back faster when he is down" and I try to make sure that I follow it to the core.

My Blogging career has been the same, miffed with success, failures, success, failures and more failures. Even with more and more failures, I did not lose hope, with no money, I did not leave blogging. I continued doing it giving time to improve on my mistakes and also improving on what I think should be put into the right place.

These efforts are now showing and I am pretty happy with it. I strived a lot for this and I was able to convert mistakes into profitable things from which I learnt. I hope to continue this learning curve and hope to make most of both the good things and bad things.

Blogging has been quite an experience for me, I made so many friends across the world that I would not have imagined otherwise. I met a lot of people too this time on my trip to India and will always cherish those memories, without blogging I would not have known those people and that in itself has me drooling over it.

I love my life, I love my job, I love blogging, I also love my family and the most important I love my someone special and hope to be hers forever in the next few months, that would make me happier than any other achievement I have made in my life. I love you bacchu, miss you too.

P.S. I am not saying that you should fail in order to succeed, however, I am saying that you should succeed and learn from your failures and not treat it as a dejection.

My Tentative Schedule For Visit To India

I am going to make a trip to India after more than a year, and I am super excited about it for several reasons, some of which I will keep to myself .

However, I have been planning to visit and meet several people I have been interacting with on Twitter and who have been writing on Techie Buzz, and hopefully it should be great experience.

On this trip I plan to visit, New Delhi, Agra, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata. Phew, it is a tough schedule so I would hopefully get to sleep on the flights at-least, anyways, here is how I am planning my trip.

Mumbai -> Delhi -> Agra -> Delhi -> Bangalore -> Chennai -> Kolkata -> Mumbai

The schedule is somewhat like this:

Mumbai -> Delhi on April 13th (Flight)

Delhi -> Agra on April 13th night or 14th morning. (Bus)

Agra -> Delhi on April 14th night. (Bus)

Delhi -> Bangalore on April 15th morning (Flight)

Bangalore -> Chennai on April 16th morning or Afternoon (Flight)

Chennai -> KOLKATA on April 17th morning or Afternoon. (Flight)

KOLKOTA -> Mumbai on April 19th morning (Flight) (Home Sweet Home)

I am sure about these dates, but would be able to visit other cities if I can. So please let me know if I am missing any cities and I will plan the trip around that too.

Look forward to visiting India and meeting all you lovely people. However, like I said that I have ulterior motives which I cannot disclose other than this.

Well, I must say that it has been the most exciting month of the year, first of all we decided to form Techie Buzz Media Pvt Ltd in near future and finally be a proper company. With 25 excellent authors, I do think that I need to have some sort of an organization where everyone is happy to be part of.

Other good news include that Techie Buzz is now regularly featured in TechMeme, which is a great honor for me as it is after all the Holy Grail of technology for many. We also got featured on the Slashdot home page, which is again a big achievement for any tech site, and were featured in Softpedia and several other high profile tech blogs. We are also part of 9Rules and Google News, phew so much more to add, but I will cut it short.

This post is not to brag about these achievements, it is to express my joy that all the hard work I have put in the last 3 and half years, and the collective effort of the Techie Buzz team in the last 9 months or so has helped us achieve so much, it is really the most exciting times for me, and probably one of the best December and Holiday season I have ever had.

I thank everyone for all the support, my friends, my Jammu and all the authors at Techie Buzz for being with me all through this. I had one promise to all my authors that we will move towards the top, and this is definitely a real awesome step towards being there.

I hope someone who is so important to me, but with whom I cannot share the happiness with reads this somehow and laughs, that will make me so much more happy.

My Life Is Empty

I am sitting here all the same, nothing changed in me, but I still feel my life is empty. I have lost the will to do things, lost the will to fight. Don’t know but my life is just so empty. It feels like everything I really cared about was taken away from me, I don’t have a care right now, my life feels so empty, I feel so empty.

Ok I am from Bombay, or Mumbai as Raj Thackeray wants us to call it. But how do other’s know if you are an actual Bombaiya or Mumbaite?

Well here are 139 reasons which tell you that you are a pakka Bumbaiya, few of my favorites listed below.

You speak in a dialect of Hindi called ‘Bambaiya Hindi’, which only Bombayites can understand.
Train timings (9.27, 10.49 etc) are really important events of life.
You have the following sets of friend: school friends, college friends, neighborhood friends, office friends and yes, train friends, a species unique only in Bombay.
The most frequently used part of your car is the horn.
Your idea of personal space is no one actually standing on your toes.
"Change" is "Chillar", "Ditching" is a "Kalti" and "Trouble" is "Jhol". (Maybe Vaat Lagli too )
Every cab and rickshaw driver makes small talk with you. (Haven’t you heard, kya saab/mehensaab kitna traffic hai dekho )

Twitter Introduces Another Ego Buster Called Twitter Lists

Ego surfing is a very old thing, where users constantly try to lookup their own names or brand names on the Internet.

With the introduction of Lists to the the public, Twitter has added a new Ego buster to the Internet. It would now be funny to see how many people are upset because they are not on someone’s list. LOL.

Here is a funny conversation from my wild wild imagination about the new twitter lists feature .

BFF 1: Hey, how are you buddy, you remember that we have to catch up today right?

BFF 2: Yea, I know, I know. By the way, I saw you created a few twitter lists, why am I missing from your BFF list?

BFF 1: Oh dude, I just created it for fun man, it did not mean anything.

BFF 2: Oh is it, then why am I missing from the list?

BFF 1: Well, dude your tweet a lot of stupid links man, I don’t want people to follow those spam links.

Birthday Blues and More

Oh yes it is my birthday today. As if the shock of turning 27 was not enough, I had a pretty wild experience today. Read on to know more.

As usual, I landed into office at 11:30 (don’t ask, I do that everyday). Everything was as usual, checked on a few emails, logged on to twitter to see everyone wishing me and likewise with Facebook. I also chatted with colleagues in India with regards to some work I had assigned them and got to work.

Now somewhere around 12:30PM or so, we heard water dripping down the windows, it was happening where the AC was, so we assumed that the old beaten AC was dripping. Then it started, water was flowing into our office from all the Windows, we thought that the stupid maintenance guys were letting of water from the terrace, we closed all the windows, but still water came in through the closed windows, just imagine the force.

I went out and what did I see? The elevators were flooded with water, water everywhere. I ran out and was near the door, when I saw that people from our building were rushing out opening their umbrellas, I just thought that it was raining very heavily and yes in front of our building it was raining like a torrential rain.

However, when I saw across the road, there was no rain. That is when I realized that one of the pipes in our building had burst.

Wohoo, Happy Birthday. Well, our office was pretty badly affected as we were on the top, the ceilings started leaking and more. However, we were able to pack everything and move important things to dry places. Thank god the area near our dev servers did not get wet, or else kaboom.

The fire department guys came in and told us to switch off all the electricity. Now no going to office till Monday, but man climbing up and down 7 floors in the fire evacuation stairs definitely had its toll on me. I may just get cozy and sleep for sometime, Birthday dreams here I come.

On a sad note, water is really devastating and my heart goes out to those who were affected by floods in Andhra and Karnataka, this small experience has shown me how devastating water can be, it can ruin anything and everything in a matter of few minutes.

This is definitely a birthday, I will not forget in a long long time. Phew.

18 Authors and Counting, All In The Techie Buzz Family Network

Well I am so overjoyed right now, we will have 18 authors dishing out content day in and day out everyday and all of them are talented enough to be there.

This has been a huge achievement for me since I started the blog a little over 3 years ago when I was the only author, over a period of time after 1 year we had some 5 authors who did a really good job but had to leave for personal reasons.

However I started rebuilding the blog again and wanted to have more innovativeness and variety in the content we dish out, and here we are 18 authors strong now and hopefully going to be one of the top 10 blogs in India soon and then maybe one of the top 10 in the world.

Much of the credit should go to all these wonderful people who we usually call authors but are part of the Techie Buzz family and much more than that and dish out content on the blog.

Some of the authors are new and joined the team based on my recent call for authors, but I have seen them and can tell you that everything is so exciting and I am really more than happy to have all of them on board.

Why a post here? Well I will be doing a introduction post on Techie Buzz soon, could not control my excitement over the things I was really excited about.

And here is to all the authors from Techie Buzz, cheers and here is to a long lasting relationship and future for the family.
