Tagground is a new beta release. Its a different ajax based search engine to search the web, a kind of social search engine mashup.

Well what's the difference, what's a search engine mashup?

Tagground searches all the social bookmarking sites for tags or url that you provide it with. Tagground allows people to locate content based on how other people around the globe are defining content.

A mashup is a website or web application that seamlessly combines content from more than one source into an integrated experience.

Currently tagground supports del.icio.us, yahoo my web2.0, and raw sugar bookmarking sites, they will be integrating new and more social bookmarking sites almost on a daily basis.

Some reasons to use Tagground

1. You enjoy finding new and interesting things on the web. (That's what Tagground is best at.)
2. You are looking for a new way to search content on the web.
3. Your a metadata geek and just love clicking around finding out how people define web content.
4. You have your own site(s), or favorite site(s) and you want to know what web content people around the world are associating to it.
5. You run your own website and want to find out how people are tagging your web content.
6. You are interested in finding out how people are tagging your competitor's web content.
7. You work in the marketing department and are looking for places to advertise your product. By using tagground you can find sites that people are tagging with the same tags they are associating to your product/site.

There are two ways with which you can search Tagground.

1. Search Tags by Url

This 'Search Type' allows users to enter URL in the search text box and execute a search to retrieve all related Tags associated to the url you entered. So, if I were to execute a 'Search Tags by Url' for 'www.tagground.com' I would assume I would received results like 'search', 'search engine', 'mashup', etc.

Then if I click on one of the tag results, that click will submit back to Tagground's search engine and execute a 'Search Urls by Tag' based on the result tag you just clicked on.

So you see, you can keep digging further and further into how people define and associate web content.

2. Search Urls by Tag

This 'Search Type' allows users to enter URL in the search text box and execute a search to retrieve all related Urls associated to the tag you entered. So, if I were to execute a 'Search Urls by Tag' for 'news' I would assume I would received results like 'www.cnn.com', 'www.newsvine.com', 'www.nytimes.com', etc.

Actually, the results display the Title of the url, not the actual www address. That would get too cluttered and ugly on the page. So I decided to just display the Title of the web page result. But you can click on the 'outlink' icon to open up the resulting url in a new browser window so you can view the result.

So, if decide to click on the resulting Title's text link, that will then submit back to Tagground's search engine and execute a 'Search Tags by Url' search type based on the url of the item you just clicked on.

So you see, you can keep digging further and further into how people define and associate web content.
